Parafly

This straight forward yet remarkably esthetic member of the tarp family might have found approval by Frank Loyd Wright.   Supported by two 8’ poles which suspend the fly along the 13’ center seam high enough for spacious coverage, the 1.9 oz. urethane coated rip-stop fly is anchored by just four tie outs, one on each end securing the poles and one for each “wing”. The simplicity makes for easy rigging and fewer accessories.  It weighs in at   and comes in its own storage sack which measures  long with a  diameter.  It weighs

Though the Parafly has been designed for a variety of places from deep forests to river camps our family has been using one for twenty years on the Outer Banks of North Carolina.  I will try not to say that this is the perfect application for this shelter but it must be close.  The freedom of movement, the generous shade and the lines of the fly sympathetic to the contours of the beach make it ideal, like it belongs there.  But we were challenged  in the early years, digging holes and  pounding pegs sideways  into the darker sand for a secure purchase.   Grounds Hogs came to the rescue:  200 denier rip-stop nylon bags with one inch grommeted webbing that after the bag is buried in the sand extends to the surface for an almost bombproof anchor.   Ground hogs will fit into the Parafly carrying bag and four of them weigh only
